Movie: Hold Me Tight 出走的时光

Movie: Hold Me Tight 出走的时光
It was Monday night and everyone was in their formal attire, men in suits while the ladies came in dresses. It was the movie gala premiere of Hold Me Tight Movie. Since "The Journey" movie, I noticed that most of our local Chinese production improve a lot in showing the beauty of our country in the films. This time for Hold Me Tight, the movie was set in Malacca. Instead of viewing the typical jonker street or tourist spots, they showed the beautiful nature of Malacca. This movie was released yesterday (25th June 2015) in most cinemas in Malaysia. If you're thinking to bring your family for a movie, this would be one of the current family films that are showing this month. Do expect some emotional parts, as this movie shows a mother's love to their child.

Here is the movie trailer
"Summary: Story of two different women who are facing family difficulties in their lives. ."

I didn't cry la, but there was one scene that almost made me. I'm not really up to date with the Malaysian Entertainment scene but one actress caught my eye, Remon Lim 林奕廷. She played the role of Ah Lian, which was one of the lead actress. Her acting was so remarkable, I really felt everything she was performing. Do expect a touching family-oriented film of the women's journey of motherhood, family values and search of happiness.

I really have to say that I truly love how this movie was film and edited. The videographers caught my attention with the scenes and transition played out. I do wish that the plot and script could have given the kids a little more screen time as I felt when ever I see them, they are always rushed out of the movie. Showed my mom the trailer and she immediately said she wanted to watch it. I guess it's really relatable for her since the movie was aimed to show the sacrifices of motherhood.

I'll be sharing the synopsis of the movie, along with some of my views below. If you would want to catch the movie, I would suggest you skip this part :) Synopsis and picture credits to the production team.

Full Synopsis of the Movie
All of the experience in our life is closed linked with the lessons no matter directly or indirectly, it has formed their own stories journey. However, everything which we face in life are God-given and we have to appreciate it.

"Hold Me Tight" is a story of two women who from different backgrounds in a small city of Malaysia, "Malacca" had become good friends. Shirley though is a 50 years old woman, but her appearance and she dressed in the young way. Her luxurious life and beautiful appearance tends to make her proud. She not only loved by her businessman husband, Ah Lim and also has a 27-year-old son who is a lawyer, David.

In contrast, Shirley's good friend, Ah Lian, age 50s, is a single mother who sell noodles beside the street to raise up her children and also father in law who has Alzheimer's disease. Her son,14 years old, Xiang because of doing violent against a guy who trying to replace his father, detained in a reformatory school. Her daughter, Mei who addicted to the Internet and often contradict and argue with Ah Lian.

Ah Lian and Shirley often spend their time together with each other. They also have another good friend, Hua, they like to sit together and talk about their own life stories. Shirley often complains about her husband's dissatisfaction, and also complained that his son David promised her that he would bring her to travel abroad, but never fulfill the promises. Although Ah Lian's son in detention, she did not stop her missing to Xiang. She also very worried about her daughter Mei addicted in the online world which would bring her harm. By the way, she also worried about her cancer diseases which the condition will become worsen. They also liven up the 'kopitiam' by their appearance and their non-stop stories' topics.

On the other hand, since Xiang has been released from the reformatory, but he did not come back to visit Ah Lian even once and chose to live with his aunt in Muar . Shirley and Ah Lian decided to find Xiang in Muar. Unfortunately, they encounter a variety of obstacles and problems. On the way, they met a boy, Tian Le who suffering from cancer, and also a transsexual, Linda, they tell their ridiculous daily lives to Ah Lian and Shirley then they had inspired heartfelt that they should not be halfway and give up.

A lot of things in this world are counterproductive, Ah Lian's illness condition gradually deteriorated and was taken to the hospital. However, a blessing in disguise, because of the illness, , her son Xiang forgive her and returned to her; her daughter also no longer contradict her but love her more. While these happened in the eyes of Shirley, she know that she should be glad and appreciate what she has now, she does not complain about her husband anymore and her son David also honor its commitment to take her to travel abroad.

My Views:
There were a lot of current issues the movie targeted at, first was the dysfunctional family. There are times when a problem occur and it could destroy the relationship of family members. In this case was after the death of the husband and the rebellion of the children towards Ah Lian. This movie is a reminder that no matter how difficult a situation may be, it's good to clarify accusations before judging a person. In the end, Xiang, her son, went through a rebellion stage with Ah Lian because he heard rumours of her having an affair, which is not true. And gosh, could have avoided the heartache she had to go through of losing him for a period of time.

Then there is the issue of taking care of family. The scene of of father-in-law and how Ah Lian had to take care of him by herself really break my heart because she had to do it alone and endure the sufferings her children gave her. But in the end, everyone has their own family values. Maybe after this show some people would care more for their grandparents or parents.

"Every human being has a story of love and grief journey will go through them as experience a full life lessons and lessons for yourself and also is a partnership that is beneficial for those who need it directly or indirectly. Everything needs to be confronted in order to enjoy a life that has been given to us by the Creator. Some physicians picture of a mother who gave birth to her baby sick for patients followed by the struggle against the pain until the last breath."

Feel like this movie would have been perfect last month for Mother's day. Anyhow, do check out the movie if you're thinking of what to watch. If you can bring your mom, bet she will love it!

Don't forget to tell your parents how much you love them yeah!

Food: Caffe Crema (Plaza Mont Kiara, KL)
This had been one of the post I have been meaning to write about but, have been swamped with work and some projects. Glad that finally I got the time to properly edit and gather information for it. Sounds like some hardcore research for just a cafe post right? Well, I am no expert in coffee but I love learning about it. I've been told that I'm not a true coffee fan (from others) which really caught me in surprise because I do love a cup of coffee time to time, the only difference between others and me is, I need my sugar in my coffee. haha. I really can't drink it pure, if not sugar then it has to be at least flavoured or with milk (ex: Latte / Caramel Machiato). Anyhow, even if others don't appreciate something the same way you do, that kind of comment shouldn't be said la. Coffee or any other topic, it's the same. Just had to say this, as it's been bugging me lately.

Back to the post, a while back, there was a coffee appreciation event held in Caffe Crema by the owner, Elvin, and PR, Xavier to help provide us some background of coffee. I don't usually hang out at Mont Kiara, so it's quite refreshing to try out a new cafe on a Saturday afternoon. This cafe is located right next to Number76 Hair Salon. I love how convenient it is as both cafe and hair salon are in collaboration, this means that those customers can have their coffee delivered to them while getting their hair done.

The cafe really reminded me a lot like the cafes I visited in Korea (fyi, they have a lot of Korean customers). It was cozy and cool wooden concept that pretty much gave a rustic feel. Aside from that, they even have vintage decoration like a vintage record player on the side counter, numerous vintage coffee grinders and more. They also provide a charging mobile station for those that need a boost of energy. While at the corner they also sell their own coffee beans along with other tools that all coffee lovers would need (Mug, Tumblr and Grinder). Its amazing how the cafe could be so customer-friendly, they even provide jars of their tea selection for their customers to sniff before ordering. It's really thoughtful and I bet most costumers that visit here has a good experience as every corner of the cafe caters to our every needs.

At the event, Elvin shared with us how the taste of coffee could be affected by various reasons like temperature, time, place and size of coffee after grinding. It was truly a wonderful experience as I always wanted to know more about coffee but didn't know how to ask. He continued on to test our sense of smell by providing us with commercial brands' coffee along with his coffee beans. Most of the bloggers that attended the event said the commercial brands' coffee smelled like it was burnt as compare to the ones that were freshly provided by him.

He then shared the basics of keeping coffee beans. Once coffee beans are roasted, it's best to be consumed within a month. Also never keep coffee beans in the fridge, they are best kept in room temperature, away from sun exposure. Also after grinding the beans, it's best to drink it asap to achieve a good cup of coffee. To ensure a good consistency of their coffee, they use a refractometer to calculate the data of the coffee. He also showed us his bottomless portafilter (also as known as naked portafilter), it's every barista dream toy to have, generally it's where the coffee will come out of from the machine and it also helps to perfect a barista's skill by looking at the texture of the coffee.

At Caffe Crema, when you order your drink, it's a habit that the baristas would ask type of coffee you would prefer. There are two signature coffee blends currently offered, check with the barista for details when ordering. You won't believe it but this month (June) would be their 8th month since open to public. I usually watch up for updates on my newsfeed and even saw that Dr Mahathir had visited their cafe before. Oh btw, they also have a great selection of tea! When you order their tea, they will provide you with a timer, to inform you the right time to drink your tea.

I love how they have a tea leave container for the teapot,
so that it wouldn't be on your cup when consuming.

Anyways, after the informative session, we got a chance to make our very own latte art. Mine didn't turn up too nice, so I'll show you what the barista did for us instead. haha. They currently have a bear coffee art trend in the cafe, do request for it if you remember!

We also had an opportunity to try out their array of desserts available here. From cheesecakes to mille crepes, they got it. Plus it's homemade.

My favourites would be oreo chesecake, oreo mille crepe and nutella mille crepe. It wasn't too rich, hard or sweet, but it was fresh and easy to pair with a coffee at the side. I guess lately I can't really take rich food as it tends to fill you up after a bite or two.

So if you're ever in Mont Kiara, I guess you know where to go to for a hangout session.
Btw this is not a paid review

Event: Takakurazome Kyoto (Fahrenheit88, KL)
To some it might be a splatter of colour on a canvas but for me, it was a phoenix shedding it's wings while flying by the rainbow sky and with an emerging ocean blue tornado coming it's way. What do you see? We all perceive things differently, especially through art. It makes us unique. For some, art may be shapes or colour, but to others, it could tell a story.

When it was finish, the artist, Kazuhiko Takakura, explained that the blue swirls represented symbols of turbulence, and the eagle image emerging out of it represents human spirit.

The brand, Takakurazome Kyoto was created since 1897. A practitioner of kendo (Japanese Way of the Sword) and love to Japanese ancient traditions, Kazuhiho incorporates the 800-year-old art of dyeing into his merchandises. He would turn traditional kimono designs into modern attire.

Dressed in his collection which themed Cosmic. Takakura also explained that the new collection took six months to create and was inspired by his love for nature.

Ever had that problem of running into someone on the street with the same attire on? You would be surprise that Takakurazome Kyoto designs are one of a kind, so when you buy them, you can rest a sure that no one else has it.

Early this month, Takakura launched a new collection of art inspired streetwear at Parkamaya in fahrenheit88 mall, Bukit Bintang. Apart from his new collection, Takakura also unveiling his new line of limited edition Takakurazome Kyoto printed T-shirts, retailing at RM59 each!

Takakurazome Kyoto is no stranger in the global fashion scene, having collaborated with major international brands including Issey Miyake, Comme des Garçons and Nike “NSW”. In fact, Takakura-san mastery of the dye art is so fluid that you can hear the distinctive swish of the strokes on the material as he applies the dye by hand.

Beauty: Shills Black Mask Purifying Peel-Off Mask Review

Beauty: Shills Black Mask Purifying Peel-Off Mask Review
A few weeks ago, I had a sudden obsession with getting a BLACK PEEL OFF MASK. Why did I cap those words? Because, I always wanted one as a kid but the ones I found were transparent peel off mask. So on a Thursday afternoon, I decided to hunt one down. It took me a mere 5 minutes to find it in Watsons (I swear you can almost get anything you want there). I got it, read the back of the cover and saw that it's from Taiwan and got it almost immediately. Countries that I would trust for skin care would be Korea, Taiwan and America.

Anyways why peel off mask? If you haven't got a chance to try you, you gotta try it at least once! The mask formulas become incredibly tight (the best part) and adhere to the skin like glue so when they are removed they lift off dead skin (second best part), dirt, oil, and other eeky yucky stuff within the pores

The Product
Shills Purifying Peel-Off Mask is a carbon black full-face mask used to remove acne on forehead, nose, chin, and blackheads. The back of the box said it might remove facial hair too. Its to purify skin, remove the dead cell tissue and etc.Got this for about RM60+ in Watsons. Was a little above my usual budget for mask, but I just had to get it when I saw it.

The Perks
The formula is like sinking-sand-texture/ tar texture, it's super thick and gooey. You have to watch your face first and apply it onto your dry face. Leave it for 15 - 30 minutes (but honestly 20 minutes is fine). By 15 minutes your face would be as hard as a rock, best to leave it a little longer for you to peel it off easily

I generally got oily/dull skin with big pores and massive amount of backheads. According to the bock, the mask will turn dull skin to rosy and healthy, oily skin will be mattified, and clogged pores and blackheads will be clear.

How it looks like after you peel

THE OUTCOME
It was definitely incredibly pain. I had to remove the mask bits by bits because it was stuck on to my face so firmly. Sure my backheads came out but so did my facial hair and skin! hahahahaha. But you know what? Strangely I love it. I guess that saying is popular because it's the truth, No Pain, No Gain.

But if you're sensitive skin or you have zero tolerance for pain. Don't try this!

Plus my face had red patches along with skin peeling. So, it's best if you were to try this when you're free of major events. I put lots of toner and moisturizer after it. And I did notice my skin got a little brighter after the mask. I don't recommend daily uses of this, weekly or twice a month should be fine. My face did got a little brighter and smoother the next day. This is not a paid review, just wanna share my funny and good experience with you all.

Also if you're wondering how to keep your skin safe from the environment? Read THIS.

Recipe: Beef Bulgogi and Kimchi Wrap
Hey guys, how are you doing? Been a while since I asked that. Feel like my blog is getting so mainstream now. Sorry about that, a girl gotta find dough to feed herself. Just want to give you a quick update that the blog would be more alive again next week. Do expect daily posting on the blog by then! Teehee. Anyways, can you believe that there is only 6 more months to 2016?! Oh how time flies. Have any of you fulfill your New Year Resolutions like losing weight or eating healthy?

Seriously I'm so bad in keeping up with the goals I set for myself. But you know what I still got 6 months and this year, it's gonna come true! I wanna learn to eat healthy for a change and to also loose those weight off. Hopefully I still have time until my gym membership expires. heh. Anyone wants to be my gym buddy or fitness motivator? How? Whenever you see me post food on my social medias, asked me if I have exercise for that day. I bet I would be embarrassed like shit to reply you if I haven't and it could make me exercise there and then. lol

So anyways, as you all know, I'm a die hard Korean fan! Love all things Korean, from the country to the music, fashion, beauty and food. haha. Recently I went for a food event by Missions Food and guess who I got to meet?! It was the winner of MASTERCHEF AUSTRALIA season two, ADAM LIAW. He was there to promote his collaboration with Missions Food, shall tell you more about that tomorrow. So stay tune!

Anyways, he shared with us some of his recipes that he came up with in collaboration with Missions Food and I thought why not share it with y'all? It's only a 5 steps recipe, but the ingredient list is a lot!

Event: Imagine Your Korea Wondrous K-Beauty Showcase (Korea Plaza, KL)
I am a huge fan of Korea and I bet I'm not the only one. Usually my main source of Korea information comes from EatYourKimchi videos. It wasn't long until early this year, before my Korea Trip (January), that I actually did research to found that aside from finding information of Korea online, you could also head to Korea Plaza for recommendations, brochure and even vouchers (restaurants/hotels/theme parks)!!

FYI, Korea Plaza is the only Korea tourism and cultural centre in Malaysia. Established and maintained by KTO KL Office since November 2008, Korea Plaza has been the paradise for all-things-Korea lovers in the middle of KL's Golden Triangle. Travel guide book, maps and discounts coupon are distributed free-of-charge to Korea travellers. FREE Regular Korean Cultural Classes including Korean Language, Korean Cooking, Kpop Dancing and Korean Beauty Workshop are available for free, with simple registration. Hallyu Fans Club, Korean Clubs in major universities/ colleges, organizations & clubs visits can be made with prior appointment. (Took this information from their FACEBOOK Page)

Oh, just want to say that this in no way is a sponsorship post. Just want to share this information to those going to Korea, because I wish there was more information of this when I was planning for my Korea Trip. Anyways, Korea Plaza has an event annually where they would promote a specific topic. This year's topic was K-Beauty. So I kinda expected to see a number of cosmetic or skin care promoting. But guess what? Instead there was a bunch of plastic surgery companies along with travel agencies that were promoting there.

Nothing against them, but it was a little of a culture shock. I mean now I understand more about plastic surgery because of the event, it was really informative. There was also cooking demonstrations along with free Hanbuk wearing. We even got a free poloroid picture of us in the hanbuk. It kinda reminded me of Korea again. Oh btw, the freebies I got from this event is super good! Scroll down to see them :D

A lot of people turned up for the event. From teenagers to even grandmas, some brought their family, while some came with their group of friends.

Freebies from K-Beauty Showcase

Aside from these annual events, Korea Plaza also provide FREE Korean Language classes and cooking classes, If you're a die hard Korean fan, believe me, this will be heaven! Make sure to go to Korea Plaza before you're Korea Trip. To claim the voucher book as I mentioned above, you have to show them your flight tickets. So don't forget to bring it with you!

Food: D Lee Deli Cafe (Casa Tropicana, PJ)

Food: D Lee Deli Cafe (Casa Tropicana, PJ)
We all have a personal favorite dessert. The most common dessert debate would be, pancakes or waffle? TBH I love waffles. I got a few of my favourite waffle places so far around PJ. So imagine my surprise when I found out that there is a new cafe in town. And guess what, it's own by the same owner of MJ Cafe

People around Tropicana or Kota Damansara would definitely know MJ Cafe as a great place for shisha hangouts under the starlight until wee hours. But what if I told you now there is a cafe that is open until 2am-3am and are fully equip to satisfied your coffee or dessert crave?

Located in between of Tropicana and Kota Damansara, lies D Lee Deli Cafe. Situated at the bottom of Casa Tropicana, this cafe serves not only desserts and coffee but also sandwiches and apple ciders!

Decorated with brick walls recycled crates as tables, at every angle this cafe is definitely insta worthy. If only I came during the day time, I bet my pictures would have been "on point" with the help of the natural lighting. I love the tiny quirky stuff you can find in the cafe, like the vintage picture and floral items placed at the brick wall.

Though this cafe is known for their desserts, I was amazed to find a variety of Kopparberg Cider there. I even snapchat (username: jessytheklchic) it and my UK friend said she never knew Malaysia had them too. They have 5 flavours, with each with their unique taste set, I love the berries one. The alcohol percentage was just 4.5%, perfect for a hot night to chill with friends.

Soft Shell Sandwich with Wasabi Aioli || RM 17.90

Aside from desserts, they also serve unique sandwiches. Why unique? Because I love the fact that they use toasted Panini Bread. If you're worry about tasting Wasabi in the sandwich, then you have nothing to fear about. I couldn't really taste the wasabi, I guess everything else in the sandwich kinda just mixed together and became one taste. For those who wants a savoury seafood flavor, should definitely order this.

Creamy Button Mushroom and Ham || RM 13.90

This was my favourited! It's like creamy pasta in a sandwich. If you're thinking of going for something filling along with creamy, this would be your best choice.

Big Breakfast || Price TBC

At the food review, we had the opportunity of trying a new dish that has yet to be place onto the menu. Packed with eggs, mushrooms, bacon, ham salad and even waffles, instead of the usual bread slice. The sauce on the waffle was a little sweet for me but aside from it, it was a hearty breakfast. Btw you can choose how you like your eggs to be cooked.

Waffle || RM 15

The dish everyone has been waiting for, waffles! For RM 15, you can pick your choice of waffle base flavours, toppings, sauces and even ice cream! Above are the waffles designed by the owner for us to try. Out of the three, I love the strawberry one the most. Also love the fact that the waffle was light and crispy.

Apple Crumble || RM 9

Other than waffles for dessert, they also have other cakes available. This dish was a crowd favourite. Drizzle in caramel along with the generous serving of apples in it, this dish just melts in your mouth. I love the fact that the crust was strong and crispy, most places always fail that.

Blondie || RM 9

The name is definitely a memorable one. Though some couldn't accept the sweetness of this dish, it was just right for me. I love the chewiness from the Blondie along with the caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream together.

Affogato || RM 10

Must order: Signature Hot Taro Latte || RM 8

If I had to pick one favourite out of the entire cafe, it would be the Signature Hot Taro Latte. I wasn't expecting anything but the moment I drank it, the strong taro essence hit my tummy just perfect. Make sure you order the hot one. FYI I'm not a fan of Yam but for this drink, I think I became one. Another thing that you have to order which I did not include above is the Oreo Cheesecake (RM 9)! It wasn't too filling and the oreo mixed was just perfect. It wasn't too little or too much. Love it when cakes ratio are made evenly. FYI all of their desserts are homemade, it is not out source.

A very cozy place for drinks and some light snacks with friends. I really love the fact that they have cider. Plus if you want to shisha, you can order it from MJ Cafe and bring it over to the cafe (But have to smoke it outside)
