Fashion: MYFW 2015 - Star Wars Inspired Opening Gala
37 Designers, 27 models and Jimmy Choo's Star Wars inspired footwear was the main captivation for everyone at the Opening Gala Dinner of Malaysia Fashion Week 2015. The night's event was graced by 250 invited guests, which included government and embassy dignitaries, participating designers, fashion influencers and International & local buyers plus media. 27 Models marched down the catwalk showcasing sculptural and sharp-edged silhouettes, chic traditional wear, immaculate gowns and whimsical totes

Turning heads were celebrity and emerging Muslimah designers – whose traditional designs were cleverly interpreted into fashion that’s modest yet astoundingly stylish and contemporary; young emerging designers such as Fern Chua, Hanif Naim and Max Mak who brought dramatic silhouettes to the ramp; exquisite men’s wear from established Malaysian designers Bon Zainal and Fairuz Ramdan; and stunning evening wear from some of Asia’s finest talents.

The night continued with a spellbinding traditional sitar performance and a hair-raising rendition of the ‘Phantom Of the Opera’ by Malaysian diva, Syafinaz Selamat. Channelling Queen Amidala, Selamat was draped in a flowing Zang Toi masterpiece inspired by the Star Wars character. New York based Malaysian designer Zang Toi is renowned for his sophisticated and stunning collections.

The unveiling of Datuk Professor Jimmy Choo’s specially designed shoes, his very own interpretation of the galactic saga, as part of the fashion week’s Star Wars fashion exploration – ‘The Galaxy Runway inspired by Star Wars’. Joining Selamat on stage were ‘Princess Leia’, garbed in - homegrown lifestyle brand - British India’s stunning creation; and another wearing Datuk Professor Jimmy Choo’s Storm Troopers inspired footwear.

“The Galaxy Runway inspired by Star Wars” is a momentous collaboration between Malaysia Fashion Week 2015, On Demand Entertainment by Astro and Disney. It’s the first fashion week in Asia to be part of this stellar Star Wars high fashion showcase in the lead-up to the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens releasing in cinemas on December 17, 2015.
